Help! Network device can not be found by ubuntu installation!!!

I want to install ubuntu 5.04 on my notebook with SIS 650 northbridge. SIS 900 Ethernet could be found by RedHat Linux 9, which is my current platform, and the device works well. But the ubuntu installation say that he could not find any network device. What should i do such that let ubuntu support SIS 900?
