声卡问题,可以播放,不能听到声音,求助!!!

我的主板是华硕P4P800的,按照《声卡驱动ALSA安装指南(第三版)》所说的一步一步的去作,,,ALSA安装成功,做完所由配置后,启动Xmms,可播放wave,但是没有声音,声卡检测也没有声音,之后给Xmms安装了插件,可播放MP3,也是听不到声音.

上述两种情况下问题一样:用耳机听不到声音,我不知道是不是因为gamix配置不对,还是内核不支持,我的内核2.4.20-8的.(如果是内核的问题就要修改内核了)
/etc/asound.state是什么操作后生成的?在gamix配置后,需要重新启动操作系统吗?还有gamix配置时是小方块有阴影时表示选中,还是大的方块?
如果想用耳机听音乐,应该怎么选,至少选择哪些?
