startx后，启动kde失败，说$DISPLAY is not set.

请各位帮忙，另外，我想装图形界面的lilo，撤掉grub
应该怎么设置，grub太丑了

最好不要自找麻烦，我们能为了好看而把GRUB换成lilo吗？？？
可能没有安装完整吧，看一下/etc/X11/XF86Config-4文件有没有？？

不过，从我的感觉上来讲，好像是你的显卡驱动没有安装正确。你先看看HAL的硬件检测模块是否能检测出的的MGA卡。将南北兄给你改的部分的＃号去掉，再试试。
