I always choose the least packages I want. In fact, I have tracked the file usage of my desktop system (slackware of course) for several months, and found out that less than 1/10 size of the installed files in the system are used. Notice that it's the result that I only have installed the LEAST packages I want (no KDE/GNOME). If you choose full install, you just waste your HD space (though it's cheap now).
For srg56: reinstall the whole system is the most stupid thing as a Linux user, typical bad behavior inherited from Windows. You should always be able to fix the hardware problem (assuming it worked before) with kernel driver and user applications.
For your USB problem, you can enable HID. Another potential problem is that you choose the wrong kernel USB driver. There're three USB drivers, e.g., UHCI, OHCI, EHCI. You should choose the correct one. |
