gtk+-2.17的安装 提示找不到cairo-xlib

因为工作需要 在RedHat5.3上安装gtk+-2.17。结果折腾了2天 还是没有好。
我已经安装了所有依赖的包 但是编译的时候还是提示
checking for CAIRO_BACKEND... configure: error: Package requirements (cairo-xlib >= 1.6) were not met:

Package x11 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `x11.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'x11', required by 'cairo-xlib', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables CAIRO_BACKEND_CFLAGS
and CAIRO_BACKEND_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.

我已经安装了cairo 1.88的。
